2025 Season Team
El Toro High School, located in Lake Forest, California, supports a growing Girls Beach Volleyball program that competes in the CIF Southern Section. Since beach volleyball was officially sanctioned as a CIF sport relatively recently (2022), the "Chargers" have been establishing themselves as a competitive force in Orange County's high school scene.
The team typically competes in the Sea View League or the South Coast League (part of the Coastline Conference), facing off against local rivals like Mission Viejo, Aliso Niguel, and Capistrano Valley.
Season: Beach volleyball is a spring sport, with the season generally running from February through April.
Levels: The program usually supports both Varsity and Junior Varsity pairs.
Format: Unlike indoor volleyball, beach volleyball is played in a "best-of-five" team format, where five separate pairs from one school compete against five pairs from the opposing school.
While coaching staff can shift annually, the beach program often shares leadership with the successful indoor program (which has been led by Head Coach Gus Culver). The program emphasizes:
Skill Transition: Helping indoor players adapt to the "sand game," which requires more movement, communication, and a wider variety of shots.
Recruiting: Several athletes from the program go on to look for collegiate beach volleyball opportunities through platforms like NCSA.
