This FAQ sheet is designed to help parents and prospective players navigate the El Toro Girls Volleyball program. It addresses the most common questions regarding the season, commitment, and team structure.
What league does El Toro compete in?
El Toro High School is a member of the Sea View League (within the Coast View Athletic Association) in the CIF Southern Section. We compete against local rivals in the South Orange County area.
How many teams are in the program?
Depending on turnout and talent depth, we typically field four levels:
Varsity: The most competitive level, focusing on high-level strategy and performance.
Junior Varsity (JV): Prepares athletes for the transition to Varsity.
Frosh/Soph: Focuses on refining fundamentals for freshmen and sophomores.
Freshman B: An entry-level team dedicated to introducing new players to the Charger system and building a technical foundation.
When are tryouts held?
Tryouts typically occur in two phases. Initial evaluations often take place during our Summer Camp (July), with final team placements occurring in late July-early August before the school year begins.
Do I need a physical to try out? Yes. All athletes must have a completed Athletic Clearance on file before participating in any camps, practices, or tryouts. This includes a sports physical performed by a licensed physician.

When is the official season?
Girls Volleyball is a fall sport. The season generally runs from mid-August through late October. If teams qualify for CIF Playoffs, the season can extend into November.
What is the weekly time commitment?
During the season, players should expect to be in the gym 5 to 6 days a week. This includes:
Daily practices (typically after school).
Matches (usually 2 days a week).
Occasional weekend tournaments for all levels. First tournament is held early August.
Is there a GPA requirement?
Yes. Per CIF and school district rules, student-athletes must maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA and be making satisfactory progress toward graduation. However, our program prides itself on a much higher "Team GPA" average and encourages academic excellence.
What is the "Charger Code"?
Every player is expected to represent El Toro with integrity, respect, and sportsmanship. We emphasize "Service Before Self," meaning team goals always come before individual statistics.
Are there fees to play?
While public schools cannot require "pay-to-play" fees, we rely heavily on voluntary donations and fundraising to cover the costs of uniforms, tournament entry fees, equipment, and coaching stipends.
How do I donate to the team?
Visit the El Toro Webstore and click on Girls Volleyball. This will be where donations and camp fees are paid.
How can parents get involved?
The program is supported by a dedicated group of parent volunteers. Parents help by getting involved in our theme nights, team banquet, senior night, fundraisers, and working the snack bar.
